‘Legally Blonde’ director, screenwriters to join DAF screening

As Elle says in the 2001 cult classic film Legally Blonde: “Happy people don’t shoot their husbands. They just don’t.”

We are so not shooting any husbands, because we are very happy people.

The Alamo Drafthouse Denver has just announced that Legally Blonde director Robert Luketic and screenwriters Kirsten Smith and Karen McCullah will come to Denver for a special screening of the film on Monday, May 23, benefiting the Denver Actors Fund. Luketic’s films include The Ugly Truth, Killers, Paranoia and 21. McCullah and Smith were screenwriters on 10 Things I Hate About You and The Ugly Truth.

You know the story, right? When a blonde sorority queen (Reese Witherspoon) is dumped by her boyfriend, she decides to follow him to law school to get him back and, once there, learns she has more legal savvy than she ever imagined.

Denver Actors Fund Presents …  is a monthly film series featuring titles that are also being staged by a partnering local theatre company. Next month, the nearby Town Hall Arts Center will be staging the Tony Award-winning musical adaptation of Legally Blonde: The Musical from May 20-June 19 in downtown Littleton. That production is directed by Nick Sugar. Cast members from the show will provide pre-screening entertainment and giveaways at the May 23 Alamo event beginning at 6:30 p.m., with the film following at 7.

Half of all ticket proceeds will benefit the Denver Actors Fund, which provides financial relief and functional support to members of the local theatre community in medical need. In less than three years, the fund has distributed more than $42,000 and logged hundreds of volunteer service hours.
